John W. Berkley

Little is known about the early years of John W. Berkley. Son of Lycurgus Berkley, who donated the land for Magnolia Cemetery. Served as mayor of Berkely. His father was Lycurgus Berkley, one the founders of the community of Berkley. After Berkley was declared a town in 1890 by a vote of the Virginia General Assembly, John Berkley was elected its first mayor. He died in 1904
