Miles King letter August 27, 1793.

                                                                                            Hampton Aug. 27th, 1793.
Dear Sir:
Yesterday afternoon arrived in Hampton Road a British Ship of War called the Orion, of Seventy-four Guns, Commanded by Capt. Duckworth. The Sans Culotte, a French privateer, was taken by her the day before the Ship came into the Roads. The unfortunate French Prisoners I believe is to be confined and I fear will be treated rather hard. I hope none of the Americans was on board the Privateer, if so, I hope they will meet with the punishment they deserve. As we are not in alliance with the British Nation how long have they a right to continue in our ports, bringing a prize into port with them? If they have no right to continue longer than a certain time I expect they will have notice, and I am D'r Sir,
                                    With very great Respect,
Your friend and very hum. serv't,
                                                                                                 MILES KING.
Hon. James Wood, Esq., Lt.-Gov'r of Virginia.
