Commandant Samuel L. Breese Letter 21 September 1852

Commandants Office
Navy Yard Gosport
September 18 1852

Sir,
Your letter of the 18th inst. requiring me to state how much will be required to complete the magazine etc. at Fort Norfolk, has been received.
In paper No. 3 of the annual estimate from the yard (to which I beg leave to refer you,) you will observe the sum of $21,474.50 stated as the amount required to complete the works at Fort Norfolk; that sum also appears in the appropriate column of the tabular statement accompanying & forming part of the paper, and to which you directly refer me in your communication of 26 June last.
The plan of portico to Commandants house was not received with your letter.
As it too late to submit plan & estimate for a house near that now built & occupied by the First Lieutenant and Master? The purser of the yard has requested me to forward an estimate for a dwelling to be assigned to him, and I have no objection to it provided it will be in time for the action of the Bureau. The letter from Purser Forrest is here with enclosed.

I am Very Respectfully,
your obedient servant,
Sam. L. Breese
Captain

Comm Joseph Smith
Chief of the Bureau of Yards & Docks
Washington
