Commandants Office
Navy Yard Gosport
July 11th 1856

Sir,
I enclose herewith Monthly Report of Expenditures for Improvement and repairs of this Yard made up to the last day of June 1856. Also Semi-Monthly abstract of materials expanded and work done from 16th to 30th same month, so far as comes under the cognizant of the Bureau of Yards and Docs.
I would respectfully ask permission to merge into one item “Sheds of Machinery for Saw Mill” and “Setting up Engine Boilers and Machinery” and in another “Completing Foundry Boilers and Machine Shop and Tools”, and “Commencing Foundry and Machine Shop and Foundry”.
Part of the appropriation for completing Keepers House at Magazine, was expensed for Store House for filling, and it is proposed to use the balance on the ladder object to complete the former.

Very Respectfully,
your obedient servant,
