Dr. Joseph W. Cauthen, Jr.

Dr. Cauthen was born in Charlotte, NC in 1928 to Rev. Joseph D. Cauthen Sr. and his wife, Georgia. He was a graduate of Livingstone College, and the Howard University College of Medicine. He became the medical director of student health services at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Later, he moved to Norfolk , where he practiced ophthalmology for many years. He also served as an assistant professor of ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

He was married to S. Olivia Roberts Cauthen. He had one son, Joseph III, and three daughters: Ruth, Permilla, and Cheryl. He is interred at Calvary with his parents.
