Frederick Alexander Roethke was a prominent businessman of Norfolk.  He was president of F. A. Roethke, Inc., an automobile dealership in operation for 42 years.

Although born in Saginaw, Michigan, he lived in Norfolk most of his life.  He was associated with the automobile sales and service firm since it was founded in 1907.  Originally it was known as Roethke Brothers and was located at Plume and Randolph Streets.  The business was moved to larger quarters on Monticello Ave. in 1915, at which time Roethke was named president. 

In addition to his business interests, he was active in civic and social affairs of Norfolk.  He was a member of the Norfolk and Portsmouth Automobile Dealers’ Association, the Corinthian Lodge 266, and the Norfolk Yacht and Country Club.

He was married to Madeline Bailey.
