Robert Taylor Thorpe

Robert Thorp was born near Oxford, NC on March 12, 1850.  He studied law at the University of Virginia and passed the bar in 1870.  He spent the next few years practicing law in Mecklenburg, Va. where he later served as a Commonwealth Attorney from 1877-1895.  He successfully ran for Congress as a Republican in 1896 and served until 1899.  He moved to Norfolk where he continued his law practice until he moved to Virginia Beach in 1934.  He died in 1938.
