Lightships guided ships safely into harbors at night. The lightship Portsmouth built in 1915, entered and the U.S. Lighthouse Service in 1916. The Portsmouth has been restored to its original condition and now stands on dry land. The museum has many artifacts, uniforms, and photographs to preserve the history of lightships.
