Letter from the Mayor of Norfolk.
July 11th 1793.
Norfolk Borough.
At a Court of Aldermen summoned and held the 11th day of July, 1793.
Present — Robert Taylor, Esquire, Mayor, Paul Loyall, Thomas Newton, Jun'r, James Taylor, Donald Campbell, Cornelius Calvert, Baylor Hill, Gent. Aldermen.
The Mayor laid before the court a letter from the Lieutenant Governor informing him that the Council of State unanimously approved of the proceedings of the court of Aldermen at a former meeting, respecting the unhappy sufferers late from Cape Frencais, and that the Lieutenant Governor and Council had ordered an advance of Two thousand Dollars from the Treasury, to be made as a temporary aid to the distressed French people from Cape Francais, to be applied agreeable to the further directions of the court.
Resolved, That the Mayor be requested to draw on the Treasurer for the aforesaid sum, and that Mr. Campbell and Mr. Hill be impowered to distribute the money to the indigent French, subject to the further control of the court of Aldermen, and that they appoint such persons as they think proper to assist in carrying the foregoing resolutions into effect.
