J. Saunders, Captain U.S. Artillery to the Governor June 30, 1805

Your letter, with enclosure and one from the Honorable Secretary of War, I received by mail yesterday.  In compliance with which I have the honor to transmit for your Excellency’s information, a return of Ordinance, exhibiting an accurate account of every article annexed to that Department, together with a monthly return of the troops placed under my command.  By the former return, you will discover that the post is deficient in the description of Artillery, &c., alluded to in your Excellency’s letter, and by the latter you will find that our Garrison is small, but is young, healthy, and ready to obey any order its Government may think proper to give.
I am, &c.
