Commandant John D Sloat Letter 10 June 1850

Commandants Office
Navy Yard Gosport
June 10 1850
Sir,
I have received your letter of the 7 inst with its enclosures relating to the land on which the magazine is located.
I contemplate leaving the station this day on a short visit to my family; and shall on my return collect all the facts in relation to the matter & forward them to you. in the mean time I request authority to employ the County Surveyor & a lawyer, to examine the records in the Clerks Office, should I find it necessary so to do. I would remark here, that the land in question is supposed to be included in the deed from the late Thomas Newton; from whom the grounds attached to the Hospital were purchased.

I am Respectfully, Sir
your obedient servant,
John D Sloat
Commandant

Comm Joseph Smith
Chief of the Burrow of Yards & Docks
Washington
