By the Act making appropriations for the Navy, approved 28th September 1850, the sum of sixty two thousand five hundred dollars was appropriated for Improvements at the Norfolk Navy Yard, which has been allotted as follows:
For completing Engine House to Smithery & Machinery $3000
Iron pipes to Cistern $1500
Magazine at Fort Norfolk $20,000
Magazine Keeper House $4000
Filling in space enclosed by Quay Walls $5000
Filling low ground, making Street in Yard $5000
Digging out Timber Dock $4000
Repairs of all kinds $20,000
$62,500
Let the several objects of improvement be entered on your monthly report of expenditures, and such steps be taken to prosecute the work, as in your judgment, the public interest demands.

An appropriation of $60,000, was made in the “Deficiency Bill” approved 15th May 1850, for Store House No. 19 and Gateway, and wall across Timber Dock.
