Joseph Smith Letter 12 August 1850

Bureau of Yards & Docks
12 August 1850

Commodore,
Your letter of the 10th inst has been received, and I herewith enclose a copy of the deed for old Fort Nelson. You are authorized to employ some person skilled in land titles to examine the record, and obtain therefrom such information bearing on the title to the land in question as well enable the surveyor to define the boundaries, and report the result to this Bureau.
The scale to which the plot of Fort Nelson was drawn, (forwarded to you on the 8th inst) is one eightieth of an inch, equals 1 foot - or, in other words eighty feet to the inch.

Respectfully,
yr ob st,
Jos Smith
Chief of Bureau
