Sam Forrest Letter 18 September 1852

U. S. Navy Yard Norfolk
September 18th 1852

Sir,
I am informed that the original plan of this yard embraced a residence for the Purser, but from some cause or other no estimate has ever been submitted to the appropriate Bureau for its erection. May I ask the favor of you to cause an estimate for that purpose to be forwarded in your general estimate, and should there have already been made out, to send one for that special object. The justice and reasonableness of placing the Purser upon a footing with the other offices in this respect is too obvious to require any argument from me.

I am Very Respectfully,
your obedient servant,
Sam Forrest
Purser

Captain Samuel S. Breese
Commander U. S. Navy Yard
Norfolk
