Commandant Samuel L. Breese Letter 7 March 1853

Commandants Office
Navy Yard Gosport
March 7 1853

Sir,
I enclosed herewith Engineer Brown's report an explanation of the discrepancies between his plan and that made by surveyor Young of the Hospital & Magazine grounds.
The two plans are herewith return.
The Theodolite on this yard is quite an old instrument and requires extensive repairs to make it useful. As there is no one in the vicinity engaged in such work I request permission to send it to Washington where it is presumed it can be put in order.

I am Respectfully,
your obedient servant,
Sam. L. Breese
Captain

Comm Joseph Smith
Chief of the Bureau of Yards & Docks
Washington
