Bureau of Yards & Docks
20th Feby. 1854

Captain,
The Bureau received a few days since, a copy of the Act of the Virginia Legislature, granting jurisdiction, over the Hospital land, road, &c., &c., which was furnished by Mr. Hatton, to the Bureau, with a request that the whole matter might be immediately consummated. The subject was submitted to the Secretary of the Navy, that the necessary measures might be taken to close the matter with Mr. Hatton and Mr. Wilson. The Secretary directs, and you will accordingly be pleased to employ Mr. George Blow Jr of Norfolk, to make an abstract of the titles of the land proposed to be purchased, to be submitted to the Attorney General. Let this be done as soon as might be practicable, that the requirements of the law may be compiled with complied with, and the money paid as soon, as the deed shall be duly executed.

Respectfully,
yr obt svt,
Jos Smith
