Joseph Smith Letter 3 November 1856

Bureau of Yards & Docks
3rd November 1856

Captain,
Your letter of the 1st instant with its enclosures, has been received. The several objects of improvement must stand charged with the amount which the Contingent fund not been exhausted would have properly been charged to that head of appropriation.
As regards the charges to Repairs of all kinds for other objects of improvement the accounts may be easily adjusted & by you now that there are funds under the several heads.
Under the Bureau letters of the 1st July last, you were authorized to apply the unexpanded balance of Store House for filling, to the completion of the Magazine and Keepers House. It seems that you have already exceeded that amount, & the building not yet reported as complete. You will stop all further work on this, as well as the other objects of improvement, where the funding exhausted, as you were indicated in the Circular, from the Bureau of the 12th September last.
The reports are returned that all the columns may be added up complete each report to be accompanied by an abstract (as per form furnished) of bills approved corresponding in amount with the footing up of the column headed “material expended since last report”.

Respectfully,
yr obt svt,
Jos Smith

Captain T. A. Dornin
Norfolk.
