Commandant Thomas Dornin Letter 8 April 1857
Commandants Office
Navy Yard Gosport
April 8th 1857
Sir,
The civil engineer at this Yard, Mr. Calvin Brown, recommends “the resumption of the work and completion of the Reservoir at the Burnetizing House, and the fitting of the water pipes at the Magazine Reservoir as the weather is now favorable for these operations”. I would therefore request permission to give the necessary order for carrying into effect this recommendation, and as the appropriation for these objects have been exhausted, that the means be borrowed from some other in which there may be a surplus.
Very Respectfully,
your obedient servant,
Thomas A. Dornin
Commandant
Commodore Joseph Smith
Chief of the Bureau of Yards & Docks
Washington D. C.
