Commandant Thomas Dornin Letter 31 July 1858

Sir,
I enclose herewith an abstract statement of the balances on hand, to 1 July inst: on the several objects of improvement together with statement of excesses on other objects named, to the same period.
I take leave to suggest to the Bureau that permission be given me to drop from the monthly return the following objects upon which are excesses and which are completed vizt:

Saw Shed exch: pump &c $2487.10
Store House No 14 $1600.07
Saw Mill machinery &c. $12,711.31
Ship House & Slip $450.87
Magazine & Keepers House $4873.69
Carpenters Shop $5826.70
Screws,Cranes &c $410.61
$28,360.35

and to provide for these accessories by charging up to some other objects, or in any other means the Bureau may direct. I would also ask your authority to drop in like manner from the return the following items which are also complete and upon which these are unexpended balances as follows vist:

Reservoir for rain waters $3088.26
Engine at Dry Dock $1060.52
steam boxes &c. $2624
$6572.78

these balances should of course, be applied towards the payment of the above excesses.
