Commandant Charles H Bell Letter 17 December 1859
Commandants Office
Navy Yard Gosport
December 17th 1859
Sir,
The Ordinance Officer has sent me two requisitions, requiring among other articles
One case for instruments, charts &c., with glass front.
One book case
One carpet for office floor
The estimated cost of the instrument case is $265
The estimate for the cost of the book case is $50
The estimate estimated cost of the carpet (60 yards) is $75
The proposed case for instruments and charts will be fifty six feet long and ten feet high.
These articles are for the new Ordinance building, the appropriation for which has run out.
It is proposed to charge the cost to the appropriation for “Magazine”, but I do not feel authorized to do so without consulting the bureau on the subject.
I would, however, recommend that the two cases be allowed.
Very Respectfully,
your obedient servant,
Charles H Bell
