5th Regiment Virginia Militia

Head Quarters Norfolk, Feby. 24, 1813.

Brigade Orders:

The heads of the Medical Staff having on the requisition made in the orders of the 22nd made a expert in writing in which they advise the establishment of an hospital for each Regiment and the purchase of several articles necessary thereto, the Surgeons respectfully are charged with the execution of the said report so far as respects selection of the hospital and the needful supplies, if these which may be in the possession of the Quarter Master, belonging to the states are insufficient, he will, on their requisition, procure the articles. Col’s Clark, Sharp and Boykin will detach from their respective commands two suitable male attendants for each hospital, and will also cause the bunks to be made by Artificers under their command, making a requisition on the Quarter Master for the necessary materials to construct them. 

The medical staff will, in these arrangements, consult economy, as far as consistent with the comfort of the sick. Quarter Master Cargill will report the quantity of stories of every description in his possession.
