5th Regiment Virginia Militia

Brigade Orders,
Head Quarters, Feby. 16, 1813. 

 Quarter Master Cargill will furnish tents, camp equipage, axes, eight days rations, straw forage, fuel and every other article required by law for the comfort and convenience of the detachment under the command of Capt. Henley, ordered yesterday for the camp near the Pleasure House consisting of one Captain, one Lieutenant and one Ensign, four Sergeants and 45 privates of rifle and one sergeant and 10 troops, to be sent to that post immediately under an escort. The Commanders of Fort Nelson will forthwith cause the banquet of that Fort to be raised so as to be four and one half feet lower than the parapet and three feet wide. He will also cause two guns be mounted at Fort Norfolk, so as to scour the ditch in reverse. The system of general drill and exercise will not be adopted until the state troops are organized, never the less the commander of corps will cause the companies under their respective commands to which the men will be instructed to repair on the first alarm and report to head quarters during the day the places appointed. They will also appoint places and time for the men to discharge pieces and forbid all firing in camp at any other than the appointed time and place.
