Norfolk Highlights 1584 - 1881
By George Holbert Tucker

Bibliography

In writing this book I have consulted the original sources as far as possible for my facts. These are the records of Lower Norfolk County now preserved in the Circuit Court of the City of Chesapeake; the Norfolk Council Orders for 1736-1798; and the wills, deeds, and marriage bonds and other records of the Corporation Court of the City of Norfolk.

I have also used extensively the microfilm files of the late Eighteenth and early Nineteenth Century Norfolk newspapers as well as those of the Virginia Gazette on file in the Sargeant Memorial Room of Kirn Memorial Library.

Other collective printed sources used by me from the same collection were the bound volumes of the Lower Norfolk County Antiquary, Virginia Magazine of History and Biography, Wiliam and Mary College Quarterly, and Virginia Historical Register, as well as early Norfolk borough and city directories dating from 1801 through 1881.

The principal printed sources used by me, most of them part of the Sargeant Memorial Room collection at Kirn Memorial Library, are:
